January To Be Read

January To Be Read

With so many new goals set up for January I have decided to keep my January reading list pretty small and by small I mean only 3 books! This could be the smallest reading list I have ever set myself but small steps still leads to great distance...

 Pride and Prejudice, Jane Austen

In this historic romance, young Elizabeth Bennet strives for love, independence and honesty in the vapid high society of 19th century England.

Since reading Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice in school I have been desperate to re-read the classic for so long. After receiving the penguin cloth bound version for Christmas the time has finally arrived to dive back into the classic. It will also serve as this month's classic read for the 12 Classic Challenge I have set myself for 2017.

Dark Matter, Blake Crouch

“Are you happy with your life?”

Those are the last words Jason Dessen hears before the masked abductor knocks him unconscious.

Before he awakens to find himself strapped to a gurney, surrounded by strangers in hazmat suits.

Before a man Jason’s never met smiles down at him and says, “Welcome back, my friend.”

In this world he’s woken up to, Jason’s life is not the one he knows. His wife is not his wife. His son was never born. And Jason is not an ordinary college physics professor, but a celebrated genius who has achieved something remarkable. Something impossible.

Is it this world or the other that’s the dream? And even if the home he remembers is real, how can Jason possibly make it back to the family he loves? The answers lie in a journey more wondrous and horrifying than anything he could’ve imagined—one that will force him to confront the darkest parts of himself even as he battles a terrifying, seemingly unbeatable foe.

I heard so many great reviews about this book that I purchased it the other day as I just could not resist reading it any longer. This is meant to be a  gripping thriller which sounds like the exact thing I need for those raining January afternoons on the sofa with a blanket, pure bliss!

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, J.K. Rowling

I decided not to put the blurb here because I am guessing you have either already read the book and know what it is about or if you haven't I would hate to ruin anything for you! I am finally on the 4th book of the series. And yes, I have never read the series before or watched any of the films!! After starting the series I just cannot understand why I never picked up these magical books sooner! I am going for the read a book and watch the film approach to try and make the process last as long as possible but if I am totally honest I cannot see it lasting very long at all!

If, like me, you have not yet read the Harry Potter novels, DO IT! I am not kidding. I am very much a contemporary fiction reader, and reading very little fantasy was the main reason I stayed away from the novels, but I am so, so happy that I went against my instinct! The novels are truly magical and at aged 25, reading them for the first time, I can honestly say they are just magically amazing and a series that no one should miss out on reading!

So that's it, just three books for the month. I only wish that having a smaller reading list would stop me buying so many books!

What are your reading plans for January?
